Collenchyma is LIVING. This is a very common NEET trap. Both parenchyma and collenchyma are living simple permanent tissues. Only sclerenchyma is dead at maturity. NEET 2024 gave the false statement 'Parenchyma is living but collenchyma is dead tissue' just to test this.

Which of the three simple tissues is dead?

Only sclerenchyma is dead at maturity. Its cells lose their protoplasm and are left as empty, thick-walled boxes. Parenchyma and collenchyma keep living protoplasm. So the odd-one-out for 'dead' is always sclerenchyma.

What is the main difference in the cell walls?
