Because it is slimy and sticky, bacteria use it to stick to surfaces like teeth, rocks, or medical tubes. The cell wall only gives shape and strength, and the plasma membrane and nuclear membrane give no stickiness at all. So the sticky answer is always glycocalyx.
The bacterial cell wall is made of peptidoglycan (also called murein). This is a mesh of sugar chains linked by short chains of amino acids.
