Does Euglena have a cell wall?

No. This is the most common NEET trap. Euglena does NOT have a cell wall. Instead it has a protein-rich layer called a pellicle just under the cell membrane. Because the pellicle is made of protein (not rigid cellulose), it is flexible, so Euglena can change its shape and move. Remember: pellicle, not cell wall.

This mixed nature is why NCERT places them in Protista, the group that 'forms a link' between plants, animals and fungi.

How many flagella does Euglena have?

Euglena has two flagella: one short and one long. The long flagellum is used for swimming. Do not confuse this with cilia (which Paramoecium has). Flagella = few and long; cilia = many and short.

Are Euglena's pigments the same as higher plants?

Yes. NCERT clearly states that 'the pigments of euglenoids are identical to those present in higher plants.' This means they contain the same chlorophyll pigments used for photosynthesis. This exact line is often tested directly in NEET.
