Primary consumers are always herbivores. They eat producers (green plants) directly. Because plants are the producers, the animal that eats the plant first is called the primary consumer, for example a rabbit, deer, or grasshopper. Carnivores never sit at the primary consumer level. This is a very common NEET matching question, so remember: primary consumer = herbivore.
