What does 'coordination' actually mean in NCERT?

NCERT defines coordination as the process through which two or more organs interact and complement the functions of one another. It does not mean one organ; it means organs working together as a team. Example: during exercise your muscles, lungs, heart, blood vessels and kidneys all adjust together.

Why can't the body just let each organ work alone?

If organs worked alone, they could not maintain homeostasis (a stable internal state). During exercise, muscles need more energy, so oxygen demand rises. This forces breathing rate, heart beat and blood flow to increase together. Only coordinated control keeps all these matched so the body stays balanced.

Which system does the 'fast' job and which does the 'slow' job?

The neural system provides an organised network of point-to-point connections for quick coordination (fast, using nerve impulses). The endocrine system provides chemical integration through hormones (slower, but longer-lasting). NCERT says both jointly coordinate all body activities.

What is the smallest unit that makes neural coordination possible?

The neuron. NCERT says the neural system is made of highly specialised cells called neurons that can detect, receive and transmit different kinds of stimuli. Without neurons there is no point-to-point signalling, so no neural coordination.

Is neural coordination the same as homeostasis?

No. Homeostasis is the goal (a stable internal environment). Neural coordination is one of the tools (fast nerve-based control) that helps achieve it, working alongside endocrine (hormonal) coordination. Do not treat them as synonyms in NEET assertion-reason questions.
