Is ciliated epithelium a separate type, or just columnar with cilia?
Ciliated epithelium is not a fully separate shape. It is columnar (or sometimes cuboidal) epithelium whose cells carry cilia on the free surface. So in NCERT it is listed as a type of simple epithelium, but its base cell shape is columnar. The cilia are the extra feature that lets it push mucus or fluid along.
Where exactly is columnar epithelium found?
Simple columnar epithelium lines the inner surface of the stomach and intestine. The tall cells help in secretion (of mucus and enzymes) and absorption (of digested food). For NEET, link 'inner lining of stomach and intestine' directly to columnar epithelium.
Which organs are lined by ciliated epithelium?

Why does the stomach use columnar epithelium and not thin squamous?
Squamous cells are thin and flat, good for fast diffusion (like the lung air sacs or blood vessel lining). The stomach and intestine need active secretion and absorption, so they use tall columnar cells that hold more cytoplasm and organelles for this work. Function decides the cell shape.
How is a cilium different from a microvillus?
Both stick out from the free surface, but cilia are longer, motile (they beat), and made of a 9+2 microtubule pattern — they move mucus. Microvilli are shorter, non-motile finger-like folds that only increase surface area for absorption (the brush border of cuboidal PCT cells and columnar gut cells). Do not mix 'ciliated' with 'brush border'.
