Correct Answer

(A) (A) and

Solution & Explanation

\textbf{Answer:} (A) and \textbf{Solution:} This is a -butyl propyl ether. On cleavage with HI the C–O bond breaks on the side that can form the more stable carbocation. The -butyl group leaves as a stable carbocation (), which is trapped by iodide to give -butyl iodide ; the propoxide part is first released as 1-propanol. With excess HI, the 1-propanol is further converted to 1-iodopropane . Hence the two iodides (C) and (D) are obtained.
