Are gamma rays or X-rays higher in frequency? They overlap, so which is which?
Gamma rays have the higher frequency and shorter wavelength. The ranges do overlap a little (both are very short waves), so NEET separates them by SOURCE, not by a sharp wavelength line. If it comes from the NUCLEUS, call it a gamma ray. If it comes from ELECTRONS in heavy atoms (or a hot filament tube), call it an X-ray. This source rule always gives the exam answer.
Where do gamma rays come from — the nucleus or the electrons?
The NUCLEUS. Gamma rays are produced by radioactive decay of the nucleus and by nuclear reactions. This is the one fact NEET tests most. Contrast: visible light comes from electron transitions in atoms, and X-rays come from electrons in heavy atoms. So gamma = nuclear, X-ray = electronic.
Why are gamma rays used to treat cancer?

What is the wavelength range of gamma rays?
