Fix one order in your head: Radio (about 10^2 m, longest) > Microwave (about 10^-2 m, cm) > Infrared (about 10^-4 to 10^-6 m) > Visible (about 4x10^-7 to 7x10^-7 m) > UV (about 10^-8 m) > X-ray (about 10^-10 m) > Gamma (about 10^-12 m, shortest). Wavelength always falls in that direction and frequency always rises. So in a match list, the longest number goes to radio and the smallest number goes to X-ray or gamma. This one rule solved the 2022 NEET match question.
Microwaves. Klystron and magnetron are special vacuum tubes (electronic oscillator valves) that make microwaves. This is the exact match tested in NEET 2026: Microwave -> Klystron/magnetron valve. Do not confuse this with radio waves, which come from accelerating charges in an antenna (LC oscillator circuits).
Gamma rays are used to destroy cancer cells (radiotherapy) because they have the highest energy and penetrate deepest. X-rays are mainly used for medical imaging (bone scans) and security checks. In NEET ReNEET 2026 the match was Gamma -> treating cancer cells. Keep it simple: gamma = highest energy = kills tumour cells.
Microwaves warm food. They make water molecules in the food vibrate, which heats it (microwave oven). UV rays are used to purify water because UV is germicidal — it kills bacteria. NEET ReNEET 2026 tested exactly this swap: Microwave -> warm food, UV -> purify water. Students who mix these two lose an easy mark.
Gamma rays come from the nucleus (radioactive decay / nuclear transitions). Visible light comes from electron transitions in atoms (electrons jumping between energy levels). Infrared comes from vibration of atoms and molecules. Source rule of thumb: nucleus makes gamma rays, electrons make visible/UV/X-rays, molecular vibration makes infrared, and special valves or antennas make microwaves and radio waves.
Match List I (Electromagnetic waves) with List II (Wavelength). List I: (a) AM radio waves (b) Microwaves (c) Infrared waves (d) X-rays. List II: (i) 10^-10 m (ii) 10^2 m (iii) 10^-2 m (iv) 10^-4 m. Choose the correct match:
Match List I (Electromagnetic wave) with List II (Production). List I: (A) Microwave (B) Visible light (C) Gamma rays (D) Infrared. List II: (I) Electron transitions in atoms (II) Radioactive decay (nuclear transitions) (III) Vibration of atoms and molecules (IV) Klystron or magnetron valve. Choose the correct match:
(ReNEET) Match List-I with List-II. List-I: P. Microwave Q. UV rays R. Gamma rays S. Radio wave. List-II: I. For purifying the water II. For warming the food III. For AM and FM communication systems IV. For treating the cancer cells. The correct option is:

Radio, Microwave, Infrared, Visible, UV, X-ray, Gamma. From left to right wavelength falls and frequency rises. Try the hook 'Ramesh Made Infinite Visits Under X-mas Games'.
Radio waves have the longest wavelength (about 10^2 m and above). Gamma rays have the shortest wavelength (about 10^-12 m and below), with X-rays close behind.
Yes, in vacuum every EM wave — radio to gamma — travels at c = 3x10^8 m/s. Only their wavelength and frequency differ, linked by c = f x wavelength.
Anchor the extreme pair first (longest wavelength = radio, or highest energy use = gamma), then eliminate options. NTA usually changes only one pair, so the surviving option is your answer.
X-rays for imaging bones and body scans; gamma rays to treat cancer (radiotherapy) and to sterilise equipment; UV to kill germs and purify water; infrared for physiotherapy heat.
